Simon III, Count of Saarbrücken

Simon III of Sarrebrück (Saarbrücken-Leiningen) (c.1180-1243)[1] was a participant in the Fifth Crusade. He acted there as leader in operations in front of Damietta in 1218.[2]

He married Gertrude of Dagsburg as her third husband; she died 1225. He then married Lauretta of Upper Lorraine (1195-?),[3] daughter of Frederick II, Duke of Lorraine[4] with whom he had two daughters, Laure who succeeded Simon[5] and married Geoffroi II of Aspremont,[6] and later Dietrich I Luf of Cleves[7]and Mathilde who married Simon III of Commercy[8] (and further children[9]).
