Simon John Hackney (born February 5, 1984 in Manchester) is a football player who plays in midfield for Carlisle United after signing from Woodley Sports in February 2005 after impressing in a trial, scoring two goals in two games for the reserves in the process. In the 2005/2006 season, Hackney played 30 league games and started 9 of those. He also scored 6 goals making him an important part of the League Two title winning team. After a bright start for the Cumbrians in the 2006/2007 season he suffered a knee injury that kept him out for most of the campaign. He returned to action during pre-season prior to the 2007/2008 season. Hackney was rumoured to be a target for Leeds United in the January 2008 transfer window.
