Simon Gregson (born Simon Gregory on October 2, 1974 in Wythenshawe, Manchester) is an English actor and is a cast member of the British popular soap opera Coronation Street as Steve McDonald.
Whilst a pupil at The Kingsway School, Cheadle, Simon entered a search (as a joke with fellow classmates) for the part of one of two new cast members to join the soap Coronation Street - the 'McDonald Twins'.
When the group was asked if anybody had done any television acting before, Nicholas Cochrane (who would become Andy McDonald) replied that he had already been employed as an extra by Granada Television on a previous television programme.
When the talent scouts were told this, Nicholas was selected out of the class and a search was on for another class member who had the same height, build and hair colouring as Nicholas and had participated in acting before the search.
As Simon Gregory was the only member of the class to fit these criteria, he was selected and the two were sent for further auditions at Granada Television.
In the end Nick and Simon were selected as the McDonald Twins, starting their television career at the age of 15 in 1989.
