Simon Dallow

Simon Dallow (born 18 June 1964) is a New Zealand television presenter who presently anchors, with co-presenter Wendy Petrie, New Zealand news programme ONE News at 6pm.
He attended St Peter's College, Auckland and Liston College. He studied law at the University of Auckland and practised as a litigation lawyer in Auckland before he travelled the world in his O.E.
Dallow was travelling to London in 1987 during a stock market crash in New Zealand. A career in bankruptcy law, at this time, did not appeal. Instead he opted for a job in tourism, a freelance tour operator. In 1993 he returned to New Zealand and was then employed at TVNZ where his One News voyage began. He then married, in 1996, Alison Mau who used to be a presenter and journalist with TVNZ; and the husband-and-wife team presented One News' weekend bulletins from 1999 up until the end of 2003, when newly appointed TVNZ Head of News and Current Affairs Bill Ralston changed to a single-presenter format. Mau switched to being the sole presenter of TV One's Breakfast show, before moving to Prime Television in New Zealand in 2005, a position from which she was sacked after the station was taken over by Sky in early 2006.
In September 2006, Dallow used his 9-12 slot on soft radio station Viva to say that he was sick of the media bashing at One News and of the critical comments that had been directed at his performance, following a report by Sunday newspapers that ratings for TVNZ's flagship news bulletin continued to decline. He was especially unhappy at being forced to front "fluffy" interactive news promotions with his co-host, which required him to ask New Zealanders what they thought on topical issues. Feedback from most viewers since his statements on Viva have generally been supportive of Simon, but agreeing that the One News bulletin has been declining in quality.
