Simon Child (born April 16, 1988 in Auckland) is a field hockey player from New Zealand, who earned his first cap for the national team, nicknamed The Black Sticks, in 2005 against Malaysia. At the age of sixteen he became the second youngest player to turn out for the New Zealand Men’s Hockey Team while still a student at King's College in Auckland. He won the Counties Manukau Junior Sportsman of the Year in 2005.
In 2006, he has developed his potential rapidly and was a game breaker at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in March. He went on to the World Cup Qualifier in April where he continued his dramatic development and finished the tournament as New Zealand’s top goal scorer.
