Simon Barrington-Ward, KCMG, (born 1930) was Bishop of Coventry in the Church of England.
The son of Robert and Margaret Adele Barrington-Ward, was educated at Eton College[1], and Magdalene College, Cambridge (from which he graduated Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts). After service as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force, he taught at theological colleges before being ordained[2] .
From 1985 to 1997 he was 7th Bishop of Coventry[3] .
Bishop Barrington-Ward is now Bishop with pastoral care of the University of Cambridge, Honorary Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Ely, Honorary Assistant Chaplain of Magdalene College (of which he has been an Honorary Fellow since 1987 [4]), and chaplain to the staff of Ridley Hall, Cambridge.
In the New Year Honours 2001 (published at the end of 2000) he was appointed Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George, having served as the Prelate of the Order. Because he is a clergyman, he did not receive the accolade and therefore does not use the title, "Sir".
