[edit] History
In 1928 Oliver Simmonds (later Sir Oliver Simmonds) designed and built a prototype aircraft the Simmonds Spartan. The company built the first aircraft at Woolston, Hampshire[1] and they were then assembled at Hamble Aerodrome. The design was a success with nearly 50 aircraft built. To capitalise on the success Simmonds Aircraft Limited changed name in 1930 to Spartan Aircraft Limited.
