In real life, I'm Dr M M Gilchrist. I am a historian and art historian, living in Scotland. I'm a graduate (twice) of the University of St Andrews, and have also done vocational postgraduate work at the University of Edinburgh. My first degree was in Mediæval History, and my doctoral research was on the iconography of the Petrine era in Russian history painting. My main contributions so far have been expanding articles on a favourite mediæval family:

and on their friends and associates in the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem; also on the troubadours. Conrad has been one of my favourite characters since my teens.

I have also written material on Patrick Ferguson's page, and on those of various of his family members, the Johnstones and Murrays. My user-name is derived from Pattie's light infantry whistle. I am the author of his only modern biography, based on his personal letters:
