Seriolella punctata (Forster, 1801) |
The silver warehou, Seriolella punctata, is a medusafish of the family Centrolophidae found in the southern Indian and southern Pacific oceans, at depths of between 100 and 650 m. Its length is up to about 65 cm.
The silver warehou has shorter pectoral fins and a more pointed snout than the other warehou species, and a distinctive pitted skin. Body colour is pale blue-grey above and silver-white on the flanks and belly with a black patch behind the upper operculum and a series of small black spots on the flanks. There is a patch of dark pigment on top of the head that extends in a vee back to the dorsal fin.
They feed mainly on shrimps, small fishes such as lantern fish, and planktonic tunicates.
