Silesian String Quartet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Silesian String Quartet is a string quartet founded in 1978 by the graduates of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. Its current members are:
- Szymon Krzeszowiec, (violin I)
- Arkadiusz Kubica, (violin II)
- Łukasz Syrnicki, (viola)
- Piotr Janosik, (cello)
The Quartet plays a repertoire of over 300 pieces, nearly two-thirds of which are by 20th-Century composers. They are also heavily invested in performing, and sometimes premiering, the works of Polish composers, as well as music by other Eastern Europeans. Many of these Polish pieces have been dedicated to the Quartet. The ensemble has given over 1000 concerts.
They are distinguished interpreters of the chamber music of Henryk Górecki.
