Subdivision of the Carboniferous period as used in Europe |
The Silesian is a subperiod of the Carboniferous period in the geologic timescale of Europe. It followed on the Dinantian subperiod and lasted from roughly 326.4 tot 299.0 Ma ago. The Silesian is subdivided in four epochs: Stephanian, Westfalian and Namurian. It was named for Silesia, a region that stretches over Czechia, Poland and Germany.
The base of the Silesian is undefined, the top is defined by the first appearance of the conodont Streptognathodus isolatus.
