[edit] Biography

After struggling to find a deal with any major recording label, SilentScream received a new lease of life after local R&B singer-songwriter Reshmonu surprised the industry by stepping in to produce the band's debut album, although they did not immediately join his music label at all.

This led to the release of their debut single, Unspoken, in selected radio stations in 2006. However, SilentScream's growth in the local music scene hit a snag later that year, when frontman John Oommen reportedly had a near-death assault.[2]

The band went on a hiatus from live performing, not only because what befell John, but also to work on their self-titled debut album, which was eventually completed and released in end-2007. The album consists of 11 tracks, two in Bahasa Malaysia and the rest in English.

Written on the band's Myspace page, according to John Oommen:

The focal point of this album would have to be the emotional quality of the lyrics, which touch on various themes such as faith, the occurrence of rape, the loss of a loved one, the tragedies of war, and of course love and relationships. It would be hard to pigeon hole this album into a specific genre of music. The songs were deliberately left varied to showcase the versatility of the band as well as to provide an accurate reflection of the band’s growth and development as songwriters in the past few years.

The first single of the year, and the second from the album, is titled Revolution. During their interview on Fly fm's Campur Chart (aired 14 October 2007), John pointed out that Revolution speaks of the cause for the youth of the nation to be aware of their rights and strive to make a change.[3] Revolution topped the Malaysian English Top 10 earlier in the 6 October, 2007 edition, for one week.
