The Silberne Lorbeerblatt (Silver Bay Laurel Leaf) is the highest sports award in Germany. It had been endowed on June 23, 1950 by the German President Theodor Heuss. It is awarded to athletes and teams if they placed several times at international championships. Furthermore, the honoree also has to have an exemplary character.[1] Exempt from the rule of several medal wins are medal winner at Olympic and Paralympic Games and winning an important international title like the football World Cup. In these cases, a single medal win (during the Olympic and Paralympic Games) or winning the gold medal can be honored with the Silberne Lorbeerblatt.
