The Sifontes Municipality is one of the 11 municipalities (municipios) that makes up the Venezuelan state of Bolívar and, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 40,042.[1] The town of Tumeremo is the shire town of the Sifontes Municipality.[2]

The Sifontes Municipality, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, has a population of 40,042 (up from 34,277 in 2000). This amounts to 2.6% of the state's population.[3] The municipality's population density is 2.6 people per square mile (1.64/km²).[4]

The mayor of the Sifontes Municipality is Marlene Vargas, elected on October 31, 2004 with 45% of the vote.[5] She replaced Carlos Chancellor shortly after the elections.[6] The municipality is divided into two (three if you count the Capital Sifontes section) parishes; Dalla Costa and San Isidro.[7]
