[edit] Bot edit in Gobiesocidae

Siebrand, I was wondering why your bot changed the french language tag in the article. The former one is listed on the french wikipedia, as well as the new one but also cites the validity of one over the other. Thanks in advance. Esoxid (talk) 05:04, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I see why now. There is a redirect to Gobiesociformes. Esoxid (talk) 05:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] names

hi, since your bot change an article with a persons name i firgued you may know the answer to this question. why does the page la:Ernestus Geisericus Gygax alter his name? should a persons name be translated to another language or left as it is spelled in its native language? thanks for any infroamtion on this. shadzar-talk 02:27, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, can't say. IMO names of people should stay the same, possibly transliterated. Since it is not my area of expertise, I wouldn't put too much value to my opinion, though. I think it is possible that each wiki has its own policy for this. Cheers! Siebrand (talk) 14:06, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
um. ok. doesn't explain much to me, but thanks for offering you ideas on the matter. i agree that names shouldn't be changed at all either. shadzar-talk 01:28, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Monarchies in Europe

I've added the comment below to the Commons talk page. I don't know who named the image EU Monarchie. It makes it look as if the map represents EU instead of Europe.

Image talk:EU Monarchie 2007.jpg The title of this image on Commons is misleading. These are monarchies in Europe, not monarchies in EU. Norway is not a member of EU.

[edit] Image:Indischer version3.jpg

This is NOT an exact duplicate of Image:Indischer_Maler_des_6._Jahrhunderts_001.jpg. It has been retouched, and was done for Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Ajanta Painting. howcheng {chat} 18:58, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Trust me, it is... Exactly the same MD5... Cheers! Siebrand (talk) 18:59, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I see ... Janke uploaded his edit over the original file. Sorry about that! howcheng {chat} 19:34, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Interstate 635 (Texas).svg and Image:Interstate 94 (Indiana).svg

I'm sorry I lost my patience on commons. I have two images which I need somebody to delete because as you see metirc version is the same. May I ask when you or some of you guys will delete them. Becasue duplicate images annoys me, and can you restre some of my changes when I vote to delete those two images? In two days in a week?--Freewayguy (talk</font.) 01:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

It'll happen when it happens. We have 2.7M media files we maintain and are quite understaffed. Having the media tagged will ensure someone will get to it one day... Cheers! Siebrand (talk) 01:11, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Can you put back some of the votes I made; you seems to take away all my votes, will it ever be delete; and for this time can I go back to work on Commons in next 30 huors/--Freewayguy (talk) 01:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

you know and and Image:Interstate 94 (Indiana).svg is the same?--Freewayguy (talk) 01:01, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

You have a 3 month block and I reverted your errors and vandalism. Case closed. Cheers! Siebrand (talk) 01:48, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
So they will eventually be process for sure/ We have enough peole vote; The 635 series is not exactly the same with metric but the 94 is exact copy with both Interstate xx Indian and Metric version. How much longer before the debation close, or at most 80 more hours. Or I just forget about this and eventually I will see things happen.--Freewayguy (talk) 00:19, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Deletion requests on Commons can take up to two months before being processed... Siebrand (talk) 08:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Monosolenium

For some reason, the image currently displayed on the page does not match the actual image. It appears to be the older version of the image being displayed in my browser. This older image is cached by the server. How do I force it to display the current version? (It is not a problem at my end, but at either WM or some server in between). --EncycloPetey (talk) 13:42, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

&action=purge Siebrand (talk) 21:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I don't understand. If I add that to the URL, I'm asked if I want to start the Monosolenium&action=purge article. Same if I go to the image directly. Is there a page that explains how to use this syntax?
If there are no other parameters, use "?" instead of "&". Siebrand (talk) 23:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. That seems to have done it. --EncycloPetey (talk) 01:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
