Talk:Siesta Key, Florida

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why is Siesta Key called a Key when it is not, as far as I know, truly one of the Florida Keys? Any clarification on that? I went there when I was a teenager and thought I had technically been to the Florida Keys but as I understand it that is not the case. Thanks.

A "Key" is an island that connects 1700th Centery Sailers form the Sea to a big land mass. These Islands would be as fair inland as there ships could go so they would use these smaller land masses as a key to the bigger land mass.
