The Siege of Fort Watson began on April 15, 1781 and lasted until April 23, 1781. The Americans attacked the fort on April 15 and besieged it. The British refused to surrender and were well dug in. Without siege equipment, the Americans would not be able to take the fort so they devised a plan to build a tower from where American sharpshooters could pick off British infantry on the walls. Fort Watson was once again attacked by the Americans on the 23rd and since the British could not fight back without exposing themselves to the American sharpshooters, McKay and his men surrendered.
