The Siege of Byzantium was the last major effort of the Persian Empire to stay in Europe, but the invading Delian League attacked the city and after a brief siege the Persians lost complete control of Thrace. Thus ending Persian presence in Europe. And giving way to Greek aggression abroad the Mediterranean Sea.
