Sick bay is a nautical term for the compartment in a ship used for medical purposes.
On Royal Navy ships, the sick bay is situated just below the bridge, forward on the starboard side. Lord Horatio Nelson decided that it should be there, and the Royal Navy obeyed his orders up to at least 1945.
