[edit] Life and career

Sibel began her musical education at the TRT Istanbul Children's Choir. During her secondary school years she joined the Youth Choir of TRT where she met Gökçen Koray, Cenan Akın and Hikmet Şimşek.

She showed an interest in pop and rock music during her years at Beşiktaş Atatürk Anadolu Lisesi , culminating in a third place finish in a Song Contest among high-school students in Turkey. In 1988, she enrolled in Istanbul University's famous Music Conservatory. In 1991, she decided to pursue a professional musical career, signing up with the Raks Müzik label.

Her first solo album Ah Biz Kızlar was released in 1992. The next year was spent on an exhaustive tour. After working with Robert Bricknell in London for a while, she returned to Turkey and released her second album, Nefes Keser Asklar in 1995. This too was extremely successful, proving that her debut was no flash in the pan.

After completing a 1997 tour of Europe, Sibel started her own production company Arinna Muzik. Her album ‘Hayat Buysa Ben Yokum Bu Yolda’ (If This Is Life, I'm Not In) was released in 1998 and contained eight songs with lyrics written by Sibel. The album also demonstrated Sibel's production talents, adding to her reputation as an artist, where even French channel MCM took notice of her talent. Her continental fame was sealed with the hit Yine Yalınzım in 2002.

By 2003, she released her fifth album, Kırmızı (Red). This was an attempt to get ahead of other singers in her league. Unfortunately this attempt was not as succeeful as she hoped. That's when she started looking for opportunities in other countries. Her sixth album, Kıpkırmızı (Crimson) which included Greek versions and remixes of songs of Kırmızı, came out a year later and conceivably contributed to the bankruptcy of her record company. It was at this point that Sibel announced that she would take some time off following the birth of her first child.

Sibel Tüzün represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 which was held in Athens with the song Süper Star (Superstar). She also recorded English and Greek versions of the song, however, just like Gülseren's song, Sibel's song failed to obtain even her own people's support with her unsuccessful song, she finished in 11th place, and it was not enough for Turkey to secure an automatic final spot for the following year's competition.

She is currently working on her new album's CD release, Saten. It was only digitally available in Turkey, released over internet in November 2005 and it sold less than five thousand copies. Saten will be released in Asia with a different title, "Satin", translation of Saten. She has already released a single from Satin at 2005, named "Seviyorum Seveceğim".

Among other things, she is an avid sailor and an accomplished co-driver, having assisted Rally driver Ethem Genim for 2 seasons.
