[edit] Little context in Abbas Abad, Mazandaran, Iran

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Abbas Abad, Mazandaran, Iran, by Chacor (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Abbas Abad, Mazandaran, Iran is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Abbas Abad, Mazandaran, Iran, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 15:53, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:PersianMasters.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:PersianMasters.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Freedomeagle 22:07, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: Labelled Maps with Rotation

[1]: The rotation is limited to the abilities of HTML and I am led to believe it can't be done for now because only Internet Explorer supports it. Street maps would be interesting though. -- Zondor 00:04, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Moving articles

On 7 August 2007 you used cut and paste to move the Sefid River article to Sefid Rud. This was incorrect for two reasons.

(1) Wikipedia policy prohibits cut and paste moves (except as noted):
"The "move page" function keeps the entire edit history of the page, before and after the move, in one place, as if the page were always named that way. So, you should never just move a page by cutting all the text out of one page, and pasting it into a new one; old revisions, notes, and attributions are much harder to keep track of if you do that. (But you may have to if, for instance, you're splitting a page into multiple topics. If you do, be sure to include a note in the new page's edit summary and talk page stating where you took the text from.)" Help:Moving_a_page
(2)Wikipedia naming conventions require the use of English. Words for "geographic terms" such as river, mountain, bridge, hill, peninsula, etc. should be in English, unless there is a well established English usage of the foreign name, such as in the case of Rio Grande for the Spanish Río Bravo del Norte. "Sefid River" is used in English. Note, that this does not mean that the entire phrase is translated into English, only the geographic term. --Bejnar 23:36, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sefid River

I am stunned to hear that Sefid River is the correct version! It is definitely not. A simple comparison, like Google search for the former and the same for the latter shows this, even though the correct version of the latter should be like this to include all spellings. Another rule of thumb is that the -rud suffix is not used in its meaning in Persian, just like the city names: Behshahr is not transcribed as Beh city!!! Or like the mountain names: Alam Kuh is going to be rediculeous as Alam mountain or mount Alam!!!! --S I A M A X 19:06, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

If you will check the references in the Sefid River article you will see that Sefid River is the term used in English, even in Beaumont, Peter (1974) "Water Resource Development in Iran" The Geographical Journal 140(3): pp. 418-431. I agree that where a geographic term has become permanently linked as part of the name that it should not be translated. Example: Torpennow Hill That however is not the case here. Rud is part of the name Sefid Rud in the same way that River is part of the name Delaware River.
Similarly, "Mount Alam" is not ridiculous at all. It is the English name for the mountain, and is used by the Encyclopedia Britannica "Elburz-Mountains" Concise Britannica. The English Wikipedia is for English speakers. By the way, Google comparisons and counts are invidious and biased toward non-academic, current and untranslated pages. I am sure that when Mount Alam is properly reserached and provided with references and notes that it will transfered from Alam Kuh. A number of Persian speakers do not consider the geographic naming conventions of the English Wikipedia when creating their articles. --Bejnar 19:26, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kiasar

A tag has been placed on Kiasar, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. [edit] Maps

Dear Siamax,

You haven't been active here since 12 August 2007 and you haven't enabled your E-mail address, which leaves me with no option other than asking for your help here, and hoping that you'll see it some day.

I'm considering creating some new maps for Iran, and I wanted to know if you have any such maps (for example like Image:Blank-Map-Iran-With-Water-Bodies.PNG) in a "vector" fomrat (SVG, Corel Draw, etc).

Please advise,

[edit] Proposed deletion of Shahr

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Shahr, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Gudeldar (talk) 14:57, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
