Template:SI unit lowercase
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This SI unit is named after [[{{{1}}}]]. As with every SI unit whose name is derived from the proper name of a person, the first letter of its symbol is uppercase ({{{3}}}). When an SI unit is spelled out in English, it should always begin with a lowercase letter ({{{2}}}), except where any word would be capitalized, such as at the beginning of a sentence or in capitalized material such as a title. Note that "degree Celsius" conforms to this rule because the "d" is lowercase.
— Based on The International System of Units, section 5.2.

- Usage of the template
- {{SI unit lowercase|Blaise Pascal|pascal|Pa}}.
- Rationale for the template
- These are important SI-related rules that many get wrong, so it is better we make them systematically conspicuous. Using the lowercase template would be incorrect, since SI units behave like all other common nouns. The SI explicitly states that they can be capitalised at the beginning of sentences and in titles.
