Talk:Shutdown
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The section on the use of "shutdown" in computers needs to cover more then just Unix. Both the Mac and the PC have a "Shutdown" feature though in XP it's refered to as "Turn Off Computer...". This section should mention why your supposed "Shutdown" via the operating system rather just turning of the machine in operating system like Mac OS Classic, OS X, Win9X, NT, 2000, and XP. --Cab88 13:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- There is in the Windows XP command prompt a command called shutdown as well. HymylyT@C 13:37, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I added a paragraph about the Windows shutdown dialog and command. Someone needs to add something about other operating systems, like MacOS. — Loadmaster 16:34, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shutdowning
Unfortunately, illiteracy tends to spread like a virus: use of the term shutdowning is becoming more popular among computer admin types, as this simple Google search shows. Sheesh. — Loadmaster 14:18, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Split this article
The sections of this article are probably large enough to be split off into their own separate articles, especially the computers and nuclear reactors sections. — Loadmaster 02:27, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "shut down" in slang
To my knowledge, the phrase used isn't "shut down", but "shot down", an equivalent of "pwned", signifying that someone has been trumped. "Shut up" would be a phrase applicable to the situation described in the article, but doesn't refer to the meaning given. ~GMH talk to me 03:22, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
