Shutter Shades are a design of fashion sunglasses created and first made available in the summer of 2007 by Shutter Shades, Inc., headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. Instead of having lenses, the design is characterized by its "shutter" motif, which is part of the frame, and are marketed as suitable for both men and women.[1] The design is inspired by the fashion of the 1980s, though the design was directly inspired by an Alain Mikli custom design for Kanye West.[2] West popularized the glasses in the music video for Stronger.[3] The glasses are available in an assortment of colors. The colors initially launched were white, black, red, blue, green pink, yellow, orange, purple and sky blue. In early 2008, clear and glow-in-the-dark designs were released, while gold and silver sets will be released by the company in limited quantities in early summer 2008.[1]
