Shute is a village located 3 miles west of Axminster in East Devon, off the A35 road.
It is surrounded by farmland and woodland beneath 163 metre Shute Hill. St Michael's Church dates from the 13th Century and includes a large memorial to Sir Wiliam Pole. Another member of the dynasty Margaret Pole is commemorated with a 19th century alabaster sculptured panel depicting her greeting her daughters at the gates of heaven. The Pole Family Manor House Shute Barton is a National Trust property.
The West of England Main Line passes through Seaton Junction to the south of the village.
