He was educated at and played for Narashino High School. After graduating in 1983, he joined Japan Soccer League side Sumitomo Metal F.C. When Japan's first-ever professional league J. League started in 1993, Sumitomo Metal F.C. was transformed to Kashima Antlers for whom he continued to play. After the end of the inaugural season, he was chosen as a member of the 1993 J-League Team of the Year.

He moved to Kyoto Purple Sanga in 1996 and played there for one season before retiring from the game.

After his playing career, he became the owner of an izakaya (Japanese pub). He now works as a soccer commentator and a personality on a local radio station.
