[edit] Creating and Editing New Pages on Wikipedia

Hi! I saw your question about how to create and/or edit new pages on this page. Hopefully this guide will answer your questions.

  • To edit any editing page, simply click on the "edit this page" tab at the top of the page. Note that some pages may be protected and if so, depending on how the article is protected, you may not be able to edit it immediately.
  • To create a new page for an article, after checking that a page on the subject does not exist, type 
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Page Name Here
    where "Page Name Here" (without the quotes) is the name of the page. Remember that Wikipedia names are case-sensiive, and upper-case/lower-case letters are important.
  • For talk pages, enter 
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Page Name Here
    where again, "Page Name Here" (without the quotes) is the name of the article you want to discuss.
  • To create a new userpage for yourself, just type 
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Example
    where "Example" (without the quotes) is your username or IP address, and edit the page as if you were creating or editing a regular Wikipedia article.
  • For subpages, type 
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Example/Subpage Name Here
    where "Example" (without the quotes) is your username and "Subpage Name Here" (without the quotes) is the name of the subpage, and edit this subpage just as you edited your userpage.
  • Note that it is not a good idea to make a lot of subpages or work on your userpages a lot because your main focus should be on editing Wikipedia.

Dallas Mavericks Article of the Week:

  • Jason Terry was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the tenth overall pick in the 1999 Draft. His excellent performance earned him a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Team, becoming only the second Hawk to do so. Within a year, he became one of the team's best players and top scorers. The Mavs showed interest in making him a part of their team, and he was traded to the Mavs in 2004, just prior to the start of the season. A solid shooter and three-point shooter, Terry has become an integral part of the Mavs lineup. Historically, he has had mixed performance in the playoffs.
