Shri Pogula Sankara Rao

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A great Humanitarian, Ayurvedic Physician and Communist from Ramanakkapeta, Andhra Pradesh, India. Sankara Rao was one of the most active manufacturer and promoter of the famous Ayurvedic medicine - Bhallathaka. This is deemed to be more potent than the world-famous Chyavanprasha, although somewhat bitterish-sweet in taste. Once used to be exported to most South-East Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc. Now the medicine, sadly is nearly extinct. But due to a few existing orders the medicine is still being prepared. He was a great humanitarian who voluntarily gave up several hundreds of acres of land for distribution among the poor and down-trodden of Ramanakkapeta. President for nearly 7 terms, he donated all the furniture, portraits, money, jewellery, etc to the Town hall of the village. He reformed many people. People say that once he pardoned a thief who robbed almost all the gold in his house. The thief was bailed out of the case by the great samaritan himself. He even helped the thief by training him to learn a professional course. Thus a thief was transformed into a professional cobbler.
