[edit] Format

The Shredd and Ragan Show is a four-hour comedy talk radio show that covers everything from politics to sports, music, movies, and idiots in the news. Past guests include comedians like Lisa Lampanelli, Stephen Lynch and Mike Birbiglia.

[edit] History

The show got its start in 1994 when Tom Ragan, then on WGR as The Tom and Karen Show was paired with Ted Shredd, then on WUFX as Ted Shredd and Mr. Ed Show. The show first made a name for itself by covering (and making fun of) the Buffalo State College Prostitute trial, and airing non-stop bits on the O.J. Simpson trial, culminating in the "OJ Bronco Chase Parade" on Buffalo's Kensington Expressway.

In 1995, WUFX changed formats and renamed as WEDG, keeping only Shredd and Ragan from the previous roster. In an often told on-air story, Shredd and Ragan explain how they went across the street to a staff meeting, looked around cluelessly, and then realized they were the only ones from the current airstaff sitting in the room.

[edit] Other Characters On The Show

  • War Panel Jim - One of the first regular callers on The Shredd and Ragan Show. War Panel has a vast knowledge of everything, but is a genius in the areas of drugs and college football.
  • Bacon - Long time caller and listener who used to simply call in and say "Iiiittt's bacon!". Now calls in with Sabres facts and to call out Evil Jim.
  • Drunken Sue - Caller who is always entoxicated when she calls. Sue often discloses information about herself to the audience, that they would rather not have known.
  • Sue From The Rez - Sue is a Native American who lives on one of WNYs Indian Reservations. She often calls in to discuss her hate for New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and the details of the Indian Compact. Or as she says "CAM-PACKT." (Often confused with Drunken Sue, though they are actually two separate people.)
  • Brother Pope - calls in when he feels the brothers are getting the short end. Highlight: Played a fatherless Black Jesus in S&R Theater.
  • Sergie - Former Vietnam Vet who might hear voices and, seen in person by both Shredd and Ragan, takes a magnifying glass to his eyes while the sun is out, claiming it makes them feel better.
  • Angry Black Woman - Sounds a bit like Buffalo commedianne Jamella. Lusts after white guys and free radio prizes.
  • Bradley Lama - Got his name from his call-ins during the Dalai Lama's visit at SUNY Buffalo Fall of 2006. Bradley is a frequent participant in the shows YOUR TURN segment, and a self procliained show historian.
  • Racist John - The epitome of the "I'm not racist, but..." guys. Shredd and Ragan often manipulate the message of his calls to expose his racist nature.

[edit] Past and Present Bits

  • Moo at the Canadians - simple and straightforward. They'd call a Canadian and moo at them. Listeners would call and guess if the Canadian would moo back. No one ever mooed back. Then they'd call someone in the US and they'd immediately moo back possible proving Canadians were slightly slower than everyone else in North America.
  • Shredd and Ragan Theater - recreations of current and past moments in history. Favorites include a Christmas recreation where Mrs. Claus starred in a gangbang flick for cash, a recurring bit about Erie County Executive Joel Giambra being portrayed as a blood-sucking vampire (with a romanian accent and hunchback assistant), and Jesus getting "accidentally" aborted by Madonna during one of her many abortions.
  • Niagara Falls Police Blotter - unknown to tourists, the American side of the Falls is crawling with insane and unique crime. S&R read the best each week, especially good when one of the perpertrators calls to defend or explain "what really happened".
  • Your Turn - a longtime bit in various forms where the listeners take over the final segment and call in to rant, screw around or comment on the show or news of the day.
  • Touchdown Throwdown - Listeners compete for Buffalo Bills season tickets. They've walked blindfolded into batting cages, taken slap shots in net from Buffalo Sabres and had various body parts pierced.
  • Test the Perverts - Josh Potter dresses like a young innocent child on Halloween and tries to get convicted child molestors to answer the door. See the video here.
  • Cruise Night - a car show Niagara Falls that may attract 8,000 people weekly during the summer at The Summit Park mall Dunn tire raceway park. [1]
  • Sammy Van Halen - An interesting fellow who lives with his mom, was born in Love Canal, wears sports jerseys with the name "Sammy Van Halen" over the original players name, drives sick sports cars - the most recent being the new Z06 Corvette, and going into various business establishments and raising a ruccous, along with picking up hot women and quoting assorted lines from different Van Halen songs into complete sentences. Lastly, Sammy Van Halen is "unreachable by telephone".
