I was under the impression that other drying methods destroyed aerogel's dendritic structure, and left a much denser solid. What other methods are used?--Joel 19:01, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
See, for instance, Cabot Corporation's Nanogel(R)-brand aerogel. They don't give much in the way of details in this brochure, but you can see that they have "eliminat[ed] the need for supercritical drying". (See the "What is aerogel?" section.) Shoreman 20:43, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
