Talk:ShockWave (video game)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To whoever wrote that error-riddled new unit list - don't do something like that again unless you are prepared to check sources first and make a comprehensive and representative list. Cycerin 08:19, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Added Citation to the claim of the mod being "official Expansion" type to the Main Article. Also As a request i would Ask the Fans of shockwave to not corrupt the talk page with senseless chatter. you are free to logically edit and Add useful information to the main article. Thank you. [edit] Capitalisation?
I know it's only a minor issue, but I noticed there are several different capitalisations of the name 'shockwave'. Which is the official one according to Hunter? CodeCat 14:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
The capitalisation on the logo and a few other things indicates "ShockWave". Aliasz0rz 24 March 2007
i can confirm that Alias is right - The Hunter86.87.18.35 14:37, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability
On the concern over the mods notability. This mod has clocked close 100,000, it might be even more considering that it is hosted on many other website that include macologist (who maintain a installer for the mac version, they only do this for the most popular mods for zero hour so their attention does deem notability, you can check out the the webpage here http://macinfront.macologist.org/mirror/macologist/details.php?file=15 )
As of now a simple google indicates 12000+ downloads from moddb http://mods.moddb.com/6301/cc-shockwave/downloads/
25000+ downloads from command and conquer download of file front http://commandandconquer.filefront.com/file/Shockwave;69050
And before the website of shockwave went down for maintenance purpose it had around 56000 downloads www.shockwavemod.com
Also the mod was among the final nomination for the moddb awards this year. And It was placed 2nd place in the make unit contest sponsored by Electronic Arts and hosted by CnC filefront
Also there this mod has been reviewed by many magazines unfortunately this is the only scan that i have, its is Germany's biggest gaming magazine "Gamestar" (gamestar.de). So it can be considerable of having the required notability especially among the gaming community. http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/6858/schockwavearticleqp7.jpg

- Another note about notability. Apart from the above, which easily sets ShockWave aside from other modifications, I think you have to realise that some mods are even officially endorsed by the creators of the game. It happened with Counter-Strike, and it also happened to Red Alert: A Path Beyond.
- Furthermore, if these mods' articles are to be deleted simply for being about a mod, you should at least be consistent and delete articles such as Malice (computer game) as well as most of the articles in this category. In fact there is only a fine line between some mods and an entirely new game based on an old engine. And since a mod is an extension based on the code of an existing program, you should also delete all articles about programs that were based on another, in general. I believe that would technically remove all references to open source projects. CodeCat (talk) 13:10, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Non-factual information.
I have edited the page and attempted to make it look more professional. Currently it looked way too personal and contained information not viable to be put in a wiki. Please keep the Future part short and factual and focus on giving information on the actual mod itself, just like the Cold War Crisis wiki page.

[edit] 'Video game'?
I'm not sure why the page was moved to ShockWave (video game), since SW isn't a standalone game at all. By all standards it's a game mod, so this new title is a bit confusing. Any specific reason why ShockWave (game mod) isn't a proper title? CodeCat 11:02, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm guessing it is because it falls within their video games wikiproject. AllStarZ 17:34, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism
Can someone revert the vandalism on this page?

[edit] Protection
Got the page protected for the foreseeable future. Don't make a user in order to vandalize, we'll just get your IP banned. Love! Cycerin 05:47, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SW Carrier 1280.jpg
Image:SW Carrier 1280.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] ShockWave's future
The development team wants to release more frequent updates, as is mentioned in the update the article links to. ([1]) But that doesn't imply they're forgoing creating major milestone releases, as this was never announced in that update. Versions 0.96 and 1.0 are still planned to be released as originally stated, I don't know what makes people think this has changed. CodeCat (talk) 23:58, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
