Shoranur is a town and a municipality in Palakkad district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is located on the banks of the Bharathapuzha River. It is an important Southern Railways junction; the Mangalore- Shoranur line joins the Trivandrum- Chennai line. There is also a railway line to Nilambur Road.
Cheruthuruthi, where Kerala Kalamandalam is situated, is right across the banks of the Bharathapuzha. Kerala Kalamandalam is a major center for learning Kerala's performing arts including Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Koothu, etc.
The Shoranur railway station is the only station in Kerala having six platforms and railway lines to 4 different routes(Palghat,Calicut,Trichur and Nilambur).
The nearest airport to Shoranur is the Cochin international airport.

As of 2001 India census[2], Shoranur had a population of 42,022. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Shoranur has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 82%. In Shoranur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
