Shootin' Goon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shootin' Goon were a ska punk outfit of the late 1990s and early 2000s who were signed to the label Moon Ska Europe and later Good Clean Fun Records.
With enough technical proficiency to get by, 'the Goon' released Splottside Rocksteady in 2000 (the title being inspired by the Splott area of the band's hometown, Cardiff). Possessing melodic celestiality and down-to-earth immediacy, the Goon were seen as head and shoulders above the ska/punk pretenders of the United Kingdom ska-punk crown.
In 2003, having moved to lead singer Matt's own record label Good Clean Fun Records, they released the long awaited Left For Dead e.p. At the time of release the EP was reviewed by legendary skateboarder Bam Margera for rock magazine Kerrang!, in which he declared "I thought I was at the f***ing circus!", prompting the band to sell T-shirts with the quote printed on them. The band broke up in 2004 following a self-organized tour.
Matt became fellow Cardiff band Adequate Seven's manager after Shootin' Goon's break up. The band reformed for a one off show in support of Adequate Seven on their last ever gig, in Cardiff on December 10th 2006.
