Mearion Shonie Bickhem III [1], also known as "Mr. International" Shonie Carter, (born May 3, 1972 in Chicago, Illinois) is a mixed martial arts fighter and referee who was featured as a welterweight on The Ultimate Fighter 4 and has previously fought as a middleweight and light heavyweight. He has compiled an overall record of 67-16-7, with a record of 35-16-7 in major MMA organizations.[1] His UFC record is 3-3, winning fights against Brad Gumm at UFC 24, Adrian Serrano at UFC 26, and Matt Serra at UFC 31, and losing fights to Pat Miletich at UFC 32, Nathan Quarry at UFC 53, and Marcus Davis at UFC Fight Night 7. He defeated Gumm and Serrano by unanimous decision, and knocked out Serra with nine seconds left in that fight. He was knocked out by Miletich at 2:42 in the second round, lost to Quarry by TKO (strikes) at 2:27 of the first round, and lost to Davis by unanimous decision.
On The Ultimate Fighter 4, Carter defeated Rich Clementi in the opening round of the competition, but lost to Matt Serra in the semifinals in a rematch requested by Serra. Unlike most of the other cast members, Shonie did not fight at the live finale. He holds other notable wins over Jason Black, Chris Lytle and Jason Macdonald.
During the show, much was made of Carter's flamboyant personality and dress.
Additionally, considerable emphasis was placed on his patented strike-the spinning back fist. Carter had used the move to knock out Serra in their first fight, and the show depicted both Serra focusing on defending against the attack and Carter claiming that he could hit it from anywhere. In the end, Carter did successfully connect with the spinning back fist, though not to the knock-out effect that he had previously.
Shonie Carter is currently a trainer on BET's new MMA reality show, ' Iron Ring (TV series)'. It is similar to UFC's 'The Ultimate Fighter', focusing on up-and-coming MMA fighters and the show utilizes the team format. The teams are all coached by hip-hop stars and each team has their own trainers.
Carter's last fight was on MFC 14 - High Rollers, losing to Brad Zazurak by TKO due to injury during the second round.
