Shokaract is the most diabolical and evil force the universe has seen since Unicron. Originally an exiled Predacon, called the Hunter, Shokaract discovered the Chaos Bringer's Dark Essence on Earth. He forged a container for this essence, dubbing it the Decepticon Matrix of Conquest in mockery of the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Using its power, Shokaract conquered Cybertron and most of the known universe, with only pockets of resistance to oppose him.

Shockaract became involved in the Beast Wars when the Dark Essence came into danger of being drawn back into the timestream, thus threatening Shokaract himself. After the failures of his Heralds, Antagony and Cataclysm, Shokaract came back himself to guard the essence. He attacked Optimus Primal, threatening to drain his spark. However, subsequent interference by the Covenant, Apelinq, Windrazor, and the legends of Cybertron overcame him, and his corrupted timeline was erased from history. Ironically, Shokaract was vanquished in a battle called Point Omega, which translated into ancient Cybertronian is Shokaract.

The opening sequence of Beast Wars: The Ascending features Magmatron, trapped in a temporal limbo, watching a fight between Dirgegun, Saberback, Killerpunch, Guiledart and Halfshell just before the planet Cybertron is destroyed by Shokaract and Unicron. He is later seen rising from a pit deep within an unknown location on Cybertron, surging with what appears to be the Angolmois energy of Unicron's essence. He was seen being calmed by Unicron's other servants as he railed against the lack of Angolmois to shape him.

During the battle on Cybertron the Maximal Snarl was able to shunt Shokaract into limbo with Magmatron, where the truth of Unicron's plans were revealed. Shokaract destroyed himself and Magmatron was freed, returning to Cybertron.
