Shocking Pinks are a band formed by Nick Harte and based in Auckland, New Zealand, although an incarnation of the band had existed previously in Christchurch City, where Harte had lived previously for four years as a welfare recipient.
Nick Harte has previously been in New Zealand bands such as CM Ensemble, The Incisions, Montessouri, Laudanum, Urinator, Solaa, The Brunettes and Pig Out. Recently the band has been signed to New York City based record label DFA Records. The band released a self-titled album on DFA in September 2007, which is primarily a compilation of tracks from the previous two Flying Nun releases "Mathematical Warfare" and "Infinity Land", though it also includes two previously unreleased tracks, and all tracks were remastered by DFA for the release.[1] Preceding the album release a series of vinyl singles were released, beginning with the track "Smoke Screen" featuring a remix by The Glimmers.[2] The first world-wide release single by Shocking Pinks will be "End of the World" on October 15[3]
In interviews Harte has made a number of unverifiable claims, including that he is a gifted multi-instrumentalist of some note, and has been accused of making misleading or baseless claims in the interest of promoting himself as an artist.
The Shocking Pinks gigging lineup has featured over sixteen members in various line-up changes since its inception in late 2003, often due to personal or creative differences within the band. As such Shocking Pinks have played live with members of New Zealand bands such as Leper Ballet, Pig Out, The Enright House and the Tiger Tones.
Currently, the 2008 Lineup of the Shocking Pinks features Nick Harte, Emma Rosenberg, Tim McDonald and former D4 bass guitarist Vaughan Williams.
