Its funnier if you spell it 'schm-'. I thought this was the common usage, but its not mentioned or used in the article. Somegeek 20:01, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- Because the basic phenomenon is what's known as "reduplication" among linguists (i.e. doubling a word or part of a word), then modifying the initial consonants. AnonMoos 09:46, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Why Schmuck?
Why is it important that "shm" is the beginning of the yiddish word "schmuck?" Is there any reason to think that shm-reduplication has anything in common with the word "schmuck?" Not that I know of.
That should be removed as it adds a negative POV with the allusion to schmuck to the concept of shm-reduplication.
