[edit] Please do not edit other people's comments
On this and the following edits, you messed up some rather complex wikisyntax in my comments but, more than that: what were you doing editing my comment in the first place? Even if that was intended as a friendly edit, you should have done the courtesy of dropping me a note on my talk page. But, in fact, I had written exactly what I meant to: it was intended both to indicate what should link where when viewed in the page and to link to the correct articles. This is a bit like using {{tl}}, except this wasn't a matter of templates. - Jmabel | Talk 05:48, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Forgive me, but I did think it was wrong. I'll be more careful in future. Shiva Evolved (talk) 14:28, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- As to editing your comment, I meant it as a simple courtesy. But I won't in future. Shiva Evolved (talk) 14:34, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't doubt your good intentions. FWIW, there is a pretty strong presumption against editing anyone else's comment unless it breaks something. This extends to misspellings, etc. Obviously, more relaxed if you have a working relationship with the person. In the rare case where you need to fix someone's comment, the edit summary should say so explicitly. I don't know if any of this is formalized anywhere, but it is very longstanding custom. - Jmabel | Talk 18:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy deletion of Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children
A tag has been placed on Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Apparently we're the same person
I just saw your comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Death Egg. Spot on - I was about to go to RfC, but your comment makes more sense, and I won't feed the trolls. User:Krator (t c) 10:31, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I must say the non-encyclopedia part of this place becomes more amusing as I go about it. Given the more important issues of life deserving our attention, this stuff ain't worth a sweat. Shiva Evolved (talk) 14:33, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Russia
Hi Shiva, with regards to this edit, it is what the BBC wrote [1]. Although I have no problem removing it. Do not worry so much about the size. Belgium, a featured article, is 120kb. I have finished adding all the information that I think should be added (HIV/AIDS problem, tuburculosis resurgence, and I was asked by Buckshot/Karna to insert information about the arrest of Khodorkovsky, raising the price of gas to ex-Soviet countries).--Miyokan (talk) 01:22, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Forgive me if I was terse in my prior comment - I just wanted to drive home the point that the article needs a different approach. Actually, the link establishes that it is pretty much BBC's own analysis, point-of-view. Also, Belgium I think is a poor example (an old FAC I believe, way back in '04), especially as the main objections on the Russia FAC will not have been addressed. The trouble is that even with superior connection, I am having difficulty in loading that page - a vast majority of others will probably have more serious complaints. [edit] Great contributions!
Hello Shiva Evolved! How are you? I looked at your contributions, user page and talk page. You have made some significant contributions. Great job! Why don't you create a list about the articles you created? It will help other users to know how many articles you have created. Anyway, great contributions! Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 13:47, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello Shiva. How are you? You can take part in WP:RfA, WP:AfD, WP:CfD, etc. I think the biography of Leo Motzkin is fine. I have made some changes in the biography. I hope it will appear in the main page. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 02:38, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FA writing:
I am very flattered you'd ask my advice. Well there's several angles and points which you can take an FA on from. First of all, pick a topic you know about and have lots of books and sources on. For example, I'd write an article on an animal or biological FA because I know a bit about them and I have lots of sources to work from. The key to getting an article featured is having sources and references. For example, my most recent FA, Andre Kertesz, is 100% refenced and if you have that combined with good writing and lots of content and pictures, then you're in for a winner. Although 100% will almost always win commentors over, about 80-90% is good practise. Everything you write must have a source and be devoid of WP:OR.
I'd suggest before tackling an FA, get lots and lots of writing experience. Although you may think you know what you're doing, you often don't when you first start out. When I started, I was doing okay articles, but after a while those articles seemed pathetic! The best thing to do is team up with an experienced editor and work on an article together - it's called collaboration and it's great for finding out how to do references, what to write, what's needed and how to do many other advanced things. The worst thing that could happen is writing what you think is an FA quality article, taking it to FAC and then finding out it's not that good afterall! It get's you down and can ruin your enthusiasm. So teaming up with someone fixes that and if an FAC becomes tough, you have someone to rely on.
So we've got references, no OR, pictures, loads of content, great writing, collaboration and patience. I'm sorry I can't give a more detailed and specific description of how to write FA's, but there's simply so much that I'd be here 'til New Year's! :) I'd suggest taking a look at other's FA's and keep on asking questions from FA writers. You can find a list of all the FA's and FA writers at this page. While writing an FA is hard, WP:FAC is harder - it takes a special person to go there and not want to scream. You've got people opposing because you've used "with" instead of "combined" and because of some obscure policy you've never seen and you're frantically searching for a way to fix it. And then when you finally do, the person is offline so can't change their vote etc etc etc! You need nerves of steel or a partner (Which is where collaborators come in handy), but don't worry if your first few times fail - persist and one will get through eventually.
Well that's about it. I've covered some of the basics, but feel free to ask any specific questions and I'm almost always around to help. I'll be absent for a few days over Christmas, but I should be up to normal soon after. Until then, scout around the FA writers and collect tips. Then pick an article you want (Try not to pick an obscure topic for your very first article, or an article which won't ever have enough information to become an FA, and especially don't pick an article which will have too much information for you to handle, such as Technology, which could go on infinitely!). Have a great Christmas and a happy New Year! :) Cheers, Spawn Man (talk) 11:40, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree with your points, do you have the sources/relevant content ready? It may be good for you to add the sections (w/ sources) to the article (or to a sandbox version) so that we can iron out the kinks. I had honestly not heard of any of your points before, but it seems interesting and plausible, so what's to lose?Bakaman 21:35, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Poème sur le désastre de Lisbonne
Hi. I have split your references so that I can give a full citation for the book in case the Google Books link ever dies. The in text citations are now "Scott, p. ?" so I would like you to provide the page numbers to make the citations stronger. Thank you. gren グレン 03:24, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- The first page number was easy to add so I did. The second I added the range of the whole chapter--feel free to narrow it down to what you used. gren グレン 03:28, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

- Hi Shiva. I am not an expert on copyright but my understanding is that you haven't violated copyright if you've used your own words. If you've copied entire sentences verbatim, that is probably a violation, so you may need to rephrase them.

- I suggest though that you ask at the Wikipedia:Help desk to get a second opinion. Regards, Gatoclass (talk) 04:16, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Spam in TopQuadrant, Inc.
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on TopQuadrant, Inc., by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because TopQuadrant, Inc. is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting TopQuadrant, Inc., please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD.
