Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Shigpit! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic'Acid 11:02, August 31, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fountains Of Wayne

I spent some time updating Fountains Of Wayne and their album pages tonight. I haven't yet done Out-Of-State Plates yet, but it's ripe for the pickin'.

                                                      Shigpit 03:54, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Nice work! I saw you helped out with their self titled album. It needed the attention, but I couldn't really find a better way to say it. Glad you stopped by! Justabaldguy 02:05, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, baldguy. FOW needs some love and I'm glad I could give it. :) Shigpit 23:00, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Crowded House

Nice edit! And from your contribs, you have pretty decent taste in music. ;)

I don't think you're in Australia, but even so you might be interested in the Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board. Also, have you checked out Wikipedia:WikiProject Music?

[edit] Owen Meany

-moved from userspace to talk-

"Thanks for the best laugh I've had all day. It's an interesting piece of trivia, but is it necessary to the article? If memory serves, it used to be more poorly written. Shigpit 22:36, 4 January 2006 (UTC)" I'm glad someone appreciated it. - Bitoffish

[edit] Grammar/extraneousness

You recently made an edit to the page on Bill Clinton in which you changed the phrase "On August 31 2005" to "In August 31 2005". I had always assumed that the former version was the correct one. Would you mind explaining what the rules are on this? I'm genuinely confused. - Maximusveritas 02:26, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I had to doublecheck what I actually did. I was trying to rv something else -- and someone beat me to it by a second or two. I don't remember making that change...I'm too much of a grammar nazi to do such a thing on purpose ... but if you go two revisions back that's what I was trying to remove. Thanks ...   PitShig | @   16:35, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense. I probably should have figured that out on my own. Anyway, I went ahead and changed it back. Thanks for your help - Maximusveritas 17:47, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userbox

Your userbox is obscured, for some reason. With all due respect, OneWeirdDude 17:21, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Looks good to me ...   PitShig | @   01:45, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Laughterlust.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Laughterlust.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 13:48, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Copyrighted

This image is of a music album or single cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the music or artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of album or single covers

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Pig.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Pig.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 11:04, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Laughter & Lust

[edit] Image:Split Enz - I Got You picture cover.jpg

Hello Shigpit, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Split Enz - I Got You picture cover.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Shigpit/Split Enz. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 19:45, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Carrack-sized.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Carrack-sized.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 13:27, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
