Chris Comstock (Born August 30, 1980 in Winnipeg, Manitoba), also known by his common internet nickname Shingen, or Teh Shingen is a single white male currently living in his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
At an early age, he was introduced to computers and video games by his parents. His first experiences with computers were with his beloved CoCo 2 where he spent many hours playing in BASIC creating little games ranging from a Russian Roulette simulator to a safe-cracking Video Game.
"Yeah, I played around with the CoCo 2. Spent lotsa time on it. Maybe too much time." - Chris Comstock
For Christmas 1985 his parents bought an Atari 2600 console which came with Ms. Pac-Man and Asteroids (computer game). Surprisingly, he actually liked the E.T. Atari game.
"I've played worse." - Chris Comstock
His school years are somewhat of a blur to him, it's a subject he generally doesn't care to discuss. After graduating in 1998, he worked at a Wendy's restaraunt, as well as a few jobs. It is at this time that he generally spent a lot of his time on IRC on the DALnet and EFnet networks. In 1999 he also worked for the Emulation website Zophar's Domain under his old Internet nickname Shade Eagle before Brad Levicoff handed it over to Sam Michaels.
"Brad's a cool guy. Sam puts on this air of being a total asshole but really, he's cool too." - Chris Comstock
After real life issues and other factors caused him to leave ZD he went to Red River Community College before dropping out at the end of 1999.
He was at his friend Scott Greig's house at 0:01 on 2000-01-01. He was playing Quake. He worked for McDonalds for a few months before getting frustrated and quitting in anger.
A childhood dream of his was realised in May 2000 when he was hired at an arcade, only to be laid off 2001-03-31.
He then spent the next several months unemployed until getting a job at Convergys. During this time, he tried his hand at many hobbies, such as creating a MUD, and indulging in one of his high school curiosities, Anime. He attended the first Ai-kon and then joined the University of Manitoba Anime club, and became one of the more prolific and contriversial members of the Winnipeg Anime Club.
In August 2002, leadership of the Winnipeg Anime Club was transitioned to Brent MacDonald, and a plan to create an anime convention was created, which they called Chibi-con. They consider the con to be small enough to not require a Wikipedia entry, unlike some other conventions.
These days, his life is spent web browsing, working, playing many video games, watching anime, and of course, eating and sleeping. It's a life he feels is worth living because it really doesn't hurt anyone.
"Who are you to tell me my life is worthless? I've heard of worse ways of spending one's time." - Chris Comstock
