[edit] History

Shizuoka station first opened in February 1889, with rebuilding of the original station happening in 1907 and 1935. The Tōkaidō Shinkansen platforms were opened in 1964. In 1981, the shopping centre Parche was added to the station. Since 2006, major renovations have been taking place inside and around the station, including the underground walkways to and from the station, and Asty and Parche, two shopping and dining complexes adjoined to the station. These renovations are due for completion in 2008.
