The Shire of Narrogin is a Local Government Area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 190 kilometres (118 mi) south-east of the state capital, Perth. The Shire's seat of government is the town of Narrogin, although the town itself is not within the Shire's boundaries. The Shire covers an area of 1,619 square kilometres (625 sq mi) and has a population of 846 (ABS 2001).

In 1892, the Narrogin Road Board was gazetted. On 1 July 1961, it became the Shire Council following changes to the Local Government Act.[1] In 1999 and 2004, proposals to merge the council with the Narrogin Town Council were defeated at referendum.[2]
