[edit] History
Mount Morgan came into being with the discovery of gold in the area in 1882. It was established as a Municipality in 1890, becoming a town on 31 March 1903 with the enactment of the Local Authorities Act 1902. On 17 March 1909 the surrounding area was incorporated as the Shire of Calliungal. On 5 November 1931, the two merged to form the Shire of Mount Morgan.
On 15 March 2008, under the Local Government (Reform Implementation) Act 2007 passed by the Parliament of Queensland on 10 August 2007, the Shire of Mount Morgan merged with the City of Rockhampton and the Shires of Livingstone and Fitzroy to form the Rockhampton Regional Council.
