Shire of Johnstone

As at 15 March 2008 this former local government area ceased to exist, having been wholly amalgamated into the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

Shire of Johnstone is a Local Government Area in Far North Queensland, Australia. The shire is situated between the cities of Townsville and Cairns. The administrative centre of the shire is the town of Innisfail.
Other towns in the shire include:
- Kurramine
- Mission Beach
- Mourilyan
- Mourilyan Harbour
- South Johnstone
- El Arish
- Flying Fish Point
The Mamu tribal group are the traditional owners of much of the land in the shire. 47% of the shire is in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.[1]
In February 2007, the Johnstone Shire Council was sacked by the Queensland Local Government Minister, Andrew Fraser[2]
