From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ShipServ is a software and information technology services company located in London, UK.
ShipServ was founded in 1999 by Paul Ostergaard on the idea of using the Internet to enable maritime shipping companies to improve the buying of ship supplies and spares. In its early days ShipServ was a member of the Maritime E-Commerce Association (MECA), the not-for-profit organisation that established the MTML (Marine Trading Mark-up Language) standard.[1]
ShipServ's core product is called TradeNet which connects a buyer's purchasing system with their suppliers. In May 2008, according to its website, the company numbered 110 buying organizations as customers, connecting them with 7,000 suppliers, totaling around $1bn in trading per annum.
In 2006 ShipServ launched ShipServ Pages - an on-line global directory of ship suppliers.
The company is privately owned, and venture backed. In 2007 the company gained a further round of funding from Wellington Partners, and increased its workforce from 50 to nearly 120 people. The company has operations in 9 countries, with its largest office being in Manila, The Philippines.[2]
In April 2008 the company was voted one of the Red Herring 100 Europe.
