Hardy Barn is the name of the hill at Marlpool (on the outskirts of Heanor) seen here looking in the direction of Shipley on the road towards Ilkeston.

Shipley is a small village in Derbyshire near Heanor and Marlpool.

The Nutbrook Canal under an Act of Parliament of 1793 was completed in 1796. Designed by William Jessop with Benjamin Outram as engineer.[1] it linked Shipley to the Erewash Canal.
