Shinjo Ito

Shinjo Ito (伊藤 真乗? 1906-03-28 - 1989-07-19) is the founder of a Buddhist Order, Shinnyo-en.

He was born on March 28, 1906, in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan, as a third child. After dedicating himself into his religious life, he passed away on July 19, 1989.

Ito was a sculptor and photographer who founded a sect of Buddhism in which messages from his deceased wife are offered to devotees. His works were featured in a major exhibit at the Milk Gallery in New York City.

Ito worked for years as an aerospace engineer.
