Shinjin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shinjin (信心) is a term coined by Shinran Shonin, founder of Jodo Shinshu. It describes the ultimate goal of Jodo Shinshu and is translated as "true entrusting", "one thought-mind" or sometimes incorrectly as "true faith" toward Amitabha Buddha. Jodo Shinshu teaches that one can achieve Enlightenment through entrusting of Amitabha Buddha, so shinjin is sometimes equated with nirvana itself.

In Notes on 'Essentials of Faith Alone' Shinran writes "Know that the true essence of the Pure Land teaching is that when we realize true and real shinjin, we are born in the true fulfilled land." [1]
