Shinji Mizushima

Shinji Mizushima (水島 新司 Mizushima Shinji?, born 1939-04-10 in Niigata, Niigata, Japan) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best-known for baseball manga such as Dokaben and his long-running series Abu-san, which began in 1973 and has been collected in over 85 volumes as of 2006.

He received the Shogakukan Manga Award twice, in 1974 for Otoko do Ahō! Kōshien and Deba to Batto and in 1977 for Abu-san.[1]

In 2004, Mizushima auctioned off the right to appear as a character in Abu-san for over ¥3 million, as a fundraiser for Mangajapan.[2]
