Shimoni Demonstration School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shimoni Demonstration Primary School and Teacher Training Centre was a primary school and teacher training college located in central Kampala, Uganda, established in 1954.

The institution was relocated to East Kololo primary school in 2006, and the land it occupied was sold in order to build a luxury hotel. Parents, pupils and teachers unsuccessfully protested against the move. It had been suggested that the hotel was a project of the country's programme to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting of 2007, however President Museveni denied this in his State of the Nation address.[1] In a 2006 interview the President stated that it was felt that bungalows which occupied the school site were a misuse of land at a time when the national economy required funds for development.
